Easy Crochet Chevron Blanket

Learn how to make this beautiful Chevron Blanket. It is really simple to follow and I have provided details for you to be successful.

In the video tutorial, I have presented a rough note diagram that I used. There is a copy of that diagram if you wish to download it or print it for yourself.

The time it takes depends on the size of the blanket and your crochet speed. For a baby blanket, it may take 8-10 hours, while a larger throw can take 15-20 hours.

Instructions:

Blanket measures: 64 x 74 (yours may very slightly based on your gauge)

Use 3 skeins of each color, I used the Bernat Blanket yarn but you can substitute with any other chunky yarn that is comparable! Each large skein of the Bernat yarn is 258 yards, so you will need the equivalent of another size 6 yarn.

dc = yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through remaining loops on the hook

Begin with a slip knot

Chain 96 (make sure the foundation chain isn’t too tight)

dc (double crochet) in the 3rd chain from the hook.

dc in each stitch for a total of 8 (the turning chain does not count)

skip 2 chains

8 dc (1 in each chain) and then dc 3 (3 double crochets in the same stitch) repeat until the end…

At the end of the row, you need an extra dc stitch. So you will have 8 plus 1 extra. chain 2 and turn your work.

dc in the first stitch and repeat.

Ideas for Your Chevron Blanket

The chevron blanket is versatile and easily customizable. Here are some ideas to make it your own:

  • Variegated Yarn: Use variegated yarn for a colorful, self-striping effect without changing colors manually.
  • Bold and Neutral Color Scheme: Create a modern, minimalist look by alternating between bold colors and neutrals like gray or white.
  • Textured Stitches: Instead of single crochet, try using half-double crochet (HDC) or double crochet (DC) to add more texture to your blanket.
  • Chunky Yarn: Use chunky yarn and a larger hook for a thick, cozy throw perfect for winter.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Uneven Increases/Decreases: Make sure you’re consistent with your increases and decreases to maintain the chevron shape.
  2. Losing Count: It’s easy to lose track of stitches in a chevron pattern, so use stitch markers to keep your place.
  3. Skipping Turning Chains: Always remember to chain at the end of each row before turning your work to ensure smooth edges.
